Syracuse Transitions to Mets Affiliation
The Syracuse Mets have officially launched their new identity, transitioning from the Chiefs name at a recent press conference. This change marks a pivotal moment for the team, which is now the Triple-A affiliate of the New York Mets, following their acquisition of the franchise in 2017. The move aims to bring the Mets' top affiliate closer to New York City.
Previously affiliated with the Washington Nationals, the Syracuse team will benefit from significant investments in upgrades to NBT Bank Stadium, totaling $26.5 million, with funding contributions from local and state governments. This commitment was highlighted by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and Mets COO Jeff Wilpon, who assured that the Mets will remain in Syracuse until at least 2043. The Chiefs name had a rich history dating back to 1934, making this rebranding a significant shift in the franchise's legacy.
